Love Local Fact : The Umbhalo Blanket, with it’s vibrant stripes, is used by the Ndebele tribe. It is only worn by married women. Beadwork is often added to these blankets and they are worn during traditional ceremonies. Once the full beadwork has been applied the can weigh as much as 25 kilograms with the wearer sometimes dancing for up to 10 hours during these ceremonies. It takes 2 Umbhalo blankets for our local empowerment CMT Team to make this luxurious gown.
