Empowering Women Story- Silindile Gumede
Silindile’s first job and only job has been with Mangwanani African Spa. After leaving school in 2004, she was unemployed for a number of years before she began her career at Mangwanani in 2007.
Sili as she is affectionately known to her colleagues, knew a friend that worked at Mangwanani and referred her to the company to apply. She landed her first job at the Sibaya branch as a therapist.
After only three months Sili was promoted to the Head of Department (HOD) for the Foot Therapy Department. Soon after that she gained experience as the HOD in the Facial Therapy department.
There is no doubt that Sili has learned so much in all areas of the business in the past nine years of working at Mangwanani, because she further moved on into the restaurant section of the Sibaya branch where she gained experience as a Waitress and a Hostess.
From Sibaya, Sili was transferred to the Forest Suites branch of Mangwanani where she resumed her work as a skilled and talented therapist, before being promoted to Head Office where she works today in the Events Department managing many of Mangwanani’s Nomadic Spas that are temporarily set up for events and functions.
When asked what she most loved about her current role at Mangwanani, Sili said, “I love being able to interact with all different kinds of people and tell them about our treatments and products. I also love that I am getting to see and visit places I have never seen before as I travel to event venues and locations.”
Sili believes that her strength currently lies in setting up the nomadic spas and managing the therapists at events.
As a mother of an 18 year old son, Sili said that working for Mangwanani has given her the opportunity to put her son through school and provide for him better. She still has many goals she would like to achieve- one is getting her driver’s licence and a car one day, and the other is to become a Mangwanani Spa Manager in the future.
