Mangwanani honours the Father of our Nation
“There can be no greater gift than that of giving one’s time and energy to help others without expecting anything in return” Nelson Mandela
Today is such a significant day for South Africa and the world at large. It is the day that the iconic Nelson Mandela is celebrated. Today Madiba would have been 98 years old and it is amazing to witness how his values and legacy lives on, specifically on this day every year.
This year Mangwanani honoured Madiba through a “Pay it Forward” initiative. We offered select clients and Diamond Club members a voucher for a Traditional Foot Cleansing and Relaxation Massage Ritual with tea and cake- with the intention of nominating someone deserving of this pamper to give the voucher to.
Some of the nominations were testament to the trials and challenges that people face on an ongoing basis, yet still manage to live a life that serves others.
Some of the amazing nominations we received:
I would like to nominate Yvonne*who has been through so much and keeps smiling and moving forward always thinking of others and never taking a break to relax and have “ME” time. Yvonne has to care for two daughters that have rare medical conditions, a husband who recently had a stroke and her husband’s Mum who has Altzheimers. She is the principal at a school and is always willing to help others and make time to listen to those who need to talk. Thank you Yvonne, you are UNIQUE and SPECIAL ….
I would like to nominate Zola Ngubese* for the Mandela Day foot massage. She was diagnosed with spinal cancer while pregnant and had a spinal operation done and then an emergency Caesar soon thereafter. Both her and the baby have been doing well. She has been put onto an extensive physiotherapy program to rehabilitate her walking. It has been a rough few months for her; I think this gift will lift her spirit.
“Our children are the rock on which our future will be built, our greatest asset as a nation. They will be the leaders of our country, the creators of our national wealth, those who care for and protect our people” Nelson Mandela
Singing, playing (and eating a few sweets) was the order of the day. Mangwanani employees managed to donate items to the crèche such as toys and stationery.
Our Mangwanani team also visited the Noluthando creche in Thembeni on the North Coast of KZN for Mandela Day to spend 67 minutes commemorating the late icon.
It is through drives like these that our eyes and hearts are opened and we hope to continue to strive to uphold Madiba’s values, not only on this day buy every day!
